Dosapallooza

After much talk, much hype from Limey and overall a mounting sense of excitement we finally hit Edmonton's only source of dosa. While the dish itself was tasty it didnt' really live up to it's expectations, perhaps b/c it looked nothing like the photo I'd seen and was individualised, eliminating the fun of tearing off dosabits from a communal dosa.

Savoy's Cafe (near Southgate) is also... a bit strange. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I certainly hadn't realised that a restaurant serving dosa would also be well known for it's healthy juices... The prices for the food were really reasonable... 4.99 for a serving of dosa, with chutney and lentil soup. I quickly realised however that they really wanted us to order a drink to make up for this. The back of the menu along with the special
s board on the wall noted two particular categories of drinks, body cleansers and energizers. They came in such lovely flavours as apple, carrot, ginger, beets etc. Each fruit or vegetable was linked to descriptions like "indigestion" or "circulation". After comtemplating the menu and the mini-specials board (which touted the same things) I decided to stick with water. However R was more adventurous and after reading the gigantic board of ingredients he opted for the spinach juice. "Sorry we don't have those" came the quick reply, we just have these two - points to menu.

That's when I realised that you couldn't just have plain carrot, or plain whatever juice. They came together, no choices, no substitutions, just all in a lovely melange. Still, R bravely ordered the body cleanser.

It didn't taste good. (I opted not to taste it, but took this on faith after seeing Juicy D's expression upon sampling the bright orange mixture). No pics of her expression but think of something like this:
