Gunners, PMing and OPs

So a "friend" (okay, just kidding, he's my friend for real!) of mine introduced me to this EVIL website.

In theory, this is a great thing. Pre-meds, med students, residents helping each other out, giving/getting the scoop on apps and interviews, schools, places to study.

Background info... American application process

May 1 : App is available
June 1 : App can be submitted
Oct 15 : App submission deadline.
What with rolling admissions, mid-June is said to be a deadline of sorts. (Especially with my loovely grades. Sigh.)

So why do I think this site is evil? Well.... let me tell you, it really is quite a terrible feeling when you read posts about people who are on the 17th draft of their personal statement/essay... and then you notice the date of the post is DECEMBER 2003!
(I think I started my essay on June 1st. oops.)

Sigh.

On the upside, I've learned a few new terms :

gunner
quote : gunners are those pre-med students who will do ANYTHING to get the best grade (except probably not sleep with the prof - those are called hoes and are in a different category) they study an insane amount. they don't help other people out. they will not answer your questions even though you know they know the answer. cause they think you not knowing is to their advantage. they hope you get bad grades so they will look even better. some of them brag about their grades. others are quiet and smug about them. but you know they got the best grade and they are sure that makes them the best person. they believe everyone else to be inferior and the fact that no one else gets the highest grade just proves it. they kiss the prof's ass all the time in front of everyone and don't seem to feel any shame about it. they prefer not to make friends with their classmates. their only friend is the prof, cause he is the one handing them the A.

PM
personal messaging. okay this one isn't so exciting, but let me tell you, its mystifying when you keep reading posts that say "just PM me..." (let's try not to draw any conclusions between my inability to figure this one and out and my chances of getting into med school)

OP
oh wait. i haven't figured this out yet... I GOT IT! Original Poster! That must be it.
